PRESSURE ON OVER TOT CASH
MSP will help compo bid
The family of a tot who accidentally hanged herself on a window blind cord are being supported in their fight for justice by an MSP.
Muireann McLaughlin’s parents claim their solicitor Ian Watson owes them £ 10,000 from a £ 100,000 payout they were awarded after the tragedy.
The toddler was two when she got trapped in a looped blind in her bedroom in February 2008 and died.
In November 2011, insurers acting for the company who installed the blinds awarded Muireann’s parents Angus and Kate £100,000 in compensation.
The McLaughl ins, of Menstrie,Clackmannanshire, claim Watson said then that he was keeping £10,000 until the insurers paid his fees.
The couple say the insurers told them the final instalment of Watson’s £ 23,894 expenses were paid in May, 2015.
MSP Keith Brown vowed to demand action from legal authorities over the missing compensation.
Brown said: “I will work to seek a positive resolution to an issue that has been outstanding for too long.”
Watson, 63, of Kelvinside, Glasgow, is a tribunal judge as well as a lawyer.
