Farage in line for two Euro pensions

-

Nigel Farage can look forward to an EU pension estimated at £132,000 a year.

That’s £59,000 more than the £73,000 he was widely reported to be able to pocket when he reaches the age of 63 in 10 years.

The reason is the former Ukip leader has got not just one EU pension, but two.

And the British taxpayer will help fund them as part of the £ 39billion divorce settlement Prime Minister Theresa May has agreed to pay the EU for Brexit.

Farage defended his pension entitlement when he was asked if he would take it.

He said: “Of course I would take it. Why should my family and others suffer even more?”

But he was accused of being a “shameless hypocrite” by Lib Dem Brexit spokesman Tom Brake.

Brake said: “He rai ls against the so- called EU gravy train. But is happy to cash in when it suits him.”

Farage and other British MEPs signed up to a subsidised EU second pension scheme now at least £187million in the red.

The European Parliament’s Additional Voluntary Pension Scheme was closed to new entrants in 2009 because of its debts.

But during the 15 years the second fund operated, a n ME P ’ s mont h l y contribution was £ 982, topped up by £1965 of public money.

The additional payments are on top of the main MEP pension scheme 10000 per cent funded by taxpayers. yers.
