I’d be Lyon if I said doing Old Firm double will be easy but we’ll give it a go

-

Darren Lyon knows what it takes to beat Celtic at Parkhead.

He’ll never forget Accies’ stunning win there in 2014 when he just 19 and praying the Hoops wouldn’t score when he came on as a late sub.

Thankfully for the Lanarkshire club they didn’t and Hamilton secured a memorable three points.

They’ll attempt to do it again on Wednesday when Martin Canning’s team try to stun the champions.

Lyon has already scored a winning goal against Rangers at Ibrox this season and he’s hoping for more joy against the Old

experience Firm in midweek. The midfielder said of the victory three years ago: “I remember coming on that night for the last few minutes, it was an incredible experience.

“They always seem to find a way to get back into games. I was stood with Virgil Van Dijk and Jason Denayer and I was praying the ball wouldn’t go to either of them.

“Thankfully it didn’t and we hung on for a deserved victory.”

With Celtic now 67 games unbeaten domestically, Lyon is well aware of the task facing Canning’s side in midweek.

He said: “We have to believe we can go there and win. You can’t go anywhere not believing you’ll win.

“But we’re aware of Celtic’s record, all our players will need to play out of their skin.

“The Rangers result gives us confidence going there. We were excellent that day and it will need to be the same again.”
