Murty’s hunt for recruits

-

Graeme Murty has revealed he’ll have a say in a January recruitment drive at Ibrox.

The interim boss knows he’ll be in charge until at least the end of the year after Derek McInnes rejected the manager’s post last week.

Along with director of football Mark Allen, Murty wi l l continue to tr y to strengthen the squad for the next manager.

He said: “I’ve had some input previously and we’ve spoken about the squad’s composition.

“Identifying players is down to the scouting department that has been put together by Mark.

“My thoughts have been asked for and given freely. That’s how we operate.

“The person who comes in as permanent manager will get the benefit of that.

“It’s just about making sure we do our checks and the people we bring in add to the squad.

“We need to make sure the composition of the squad is right, giving us multiple options to change shape and formation for games if needed.

“And the players also need to have the right character to play for Rangers.”

Murty is as surprised as anyone that he’s st i l l stand-in gaffer at Ibrox after the club fai led in their pursuit of McInnes.

He said: “Am I delighted that I’m still in charge? I’m not sure delight is the word, it’s more surprise.

“I’m an emotional guy but I have to contain that because I’ve got a job to do.

“The speculation around the club could lead to the players losing focus.

“It’s our job to make sure that doesn’t happen.

“The process is ongoing. If a stellar appointment becomes available and the board want to move in that direction, I’m sure they’ll be open with me.”
