We were on another level

- Scott McDermott

Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke insists his side fully merited their win over Rangers.

The Rugby Park gaffer was delighted with his players’ display as they notched their first win over the Ibrox club in five years.

Clarke hailed the impact of new signing Youssouf Mulumbu who was outstanding in the 2-1 victory, as Kris Boyd netted a double.

And he believes Killie took advantage of Rangers’ state of vulnerability.

Clarke said: “It’s always nice to win and beat the Old Firm.

“And it’s great to win three home games because people used to tell me we couldn’t win at Rugby Park.

“We were marginally better in the first half and found another level in the second.

“Nobody in the stadium could say we didn’t deserve to win.

“Youssouf is a topquality player, you’ve seen that over the last few games. We’re just going to enjoy him while he’s here.

“I’m not going to speak about what goes on behind the scenes at Rangers but they’re struggling for consistency at the moment.

“They’ve had some good results but have now lost to Dundee, Hamilton, St Johnstone and ourselves.

“When the game went to 1-1 and we had them on the back foot you could see a little bit of vulnerability there.

“But I’m sure Graeme Murty will address that and Rangers will be a strong team.”
