My year of fighting for woof and justice

£4k pet insurance payout one of many wins

24th monthly payment on her life insurance policy the day before she died of renal failure aged just 55.

But OneFamily refused to pay the £ 5098 due under the policy, using the excuse that the two-year anniversary hadn’t been reached.

Rachel, 26, was furious and contacted me in February. She said: “They sent a cheque for £ 720 – 150 per cent of the premiums – claiming that was all we were due.

“Despite taking the 24th monthly instalment, they claimed mum was 22 days short of the two- year anniversary of the policy.”

But I got on to OneFamily, they reversed their decision and paid out as a gesture of goodwill. James Brown and his family also called on my services – they were in a lather when their £ 3000 luxury hot tub began to leak after just two uses. James, 44, of Tullibody, Clackmannanshire, had spent six months renovating his garden to accommodate the spa – and couldn’t use it a s he wa s worried the electrics would be affected. Hot Price Tubs promised to replace it in four to six weeks but nothing arrived.

I collared the firm in May and a full refund was soon winging its way to him.

There was, of course, some light relief along the way in 2017.

Elvis fans were all shook up when a festival in his memory was cancelled at the last minute.

Organisers Tees Events promised refunds to disappointed Blackpool concert- goers, including Robert and Linda Barrett, who have a shrine to the great man in their garden shed.

But the £135-per-head refunds failed to materialise. Tees Events finally paid up after I took them to task in September.

I was also on the money for collector Thomas Dunn, who was missing a coin to complete an exclusive set of sovereigns.

Windsor Mint couldn’t supply the souvenir featuring engineering giant Isambard Kingdom Brunel. They kept sending Thomas, of Easterhouse, Glasgow, Princess Diana instead. He called me in September.

But they finally found Brunel and sent it to him. Thrilled Thomas, 68, had been trying for a year with no success. Rest assured…I’ll be fighting harder than ever to win justice for you in 2018. I’m never afraid to name and shame rogues… and there were plenty who came across my radar in 2017.
