Jim McInally was thrilled as in-form Peterhead edged Stirling Albion in a seven-goal thriller.

Played in high winds, the sides shared four goals in the first half but sub Russell McLean scored twice after the break to make it eight wins in a row for the Blue Toon in all competitions.

Boss McInally said: “That is probably our best three points of the season.

“At half- time Stirling might have thought the game was in the bag because that is probably as bad as the wind has been this season.

“I felt our second- half performance was terrific and I am so happy for big Russell to go on and show people that, apart from his size, he has a bit of skill about him.”

Straight from kick- off, Rory McAllister’s 50-yard deflected effort came close and Peterhead scored from the resulting corner with 35 seconds on the clock.

An inswinging delivery from Willie Gibson went straight in.

But Stirling were soon level, Willie Robertson stabbing in from close range. Peterhead were back in front in 23 minutes when McAllister won and scored a penalty after he was fouled by Ross Smith.

The Binos were level again in 32 minutes when Darren Smith slotted in from 10 yards.

But two goals in four minutes from McLean won the points. The big striker fired in an angled drive in 68 minutes before showing great composure to beat his marker and net again.

Smith pulled a goal back deep in stoppage time and manager Dave Mackay groaned: “The four goals we conceded were poor.”
