Great grub, super service and six big screens of sport..we were on cloud 9

-

If the walls in Committee Room No9 could talk, then the clientele might nod off through sheer boredom.

As the name suggests, this building used to play host to council meetings, hosting the so-called movers and shakers who have populated Glasgow’s nearby civic HQ over the decades.

Now it is a beautiful highceilinged watering hole with no-frills hearty American and British cuisine.

When Pub Spy visited, an English Premier League match between Liverpool and Manchester City was drawing to a close on the six big screens.

The sports bar vibe was never oppressive, though, and there was a mixed crowd between the high stools and tables on the ground floor and the upholstered booths above the bar. As the on- screen action switched f rom English to Spanish football and NFL, the crowd thinned out a little but the atmosphere was none the worse for it.

This allowed Pub Spy to take advantage of the menu…and it’s way, way better than it really ought to be.

We’re in burgers, nachos and wings territory but there’s nothing wrong with that when it’s done with a little love and attention. On the drinks front, it’s backed up by the now obligatory selection of craft beers.

All the food is excellent and kudos to the management for their buy- one-burger-get- onefree January promotion. Very well timed.

They also deserve praise for the speed of service and friendliness.

CR9, to give it a bit of a Cristiano Ronaldo- inspired nickname, is a bit off the Merchant City’s beaten track but it’s well worth adjusting your plans to pay a visit.
