Rangers new boy Sean Goss believes the gap between the Ibrox side and Celtic has closed.

The midfielder joined Graeme Murty’s side on loan from Queens Park Rangers at the beginning of the transfer window, having left Manchester United for London 12 months ago.

He will have to wait until the crunch league game at home to Aberdeen on Wednesday for his competitive debut in blue – after the Scottish Cup tie at Fraser burgh was postponed after a pitch inspection yesterday.

But asked if Rangers can catch up to the champions, he said: “That’s the aim.

“I watched the [Old Firm] game before the winter break and the lads did well and could have nicked it.

“The gap has closed. The club is heading towards where it used to be, being back in the Premiership.

“We have really high ambitions for the rest of this season as well. We want a cup and to finish as well as we can in the league.”

Loanees Russell Martin, Jason Cummings, Jamie Murphy and Goss make up Murty’s January transfer business, with the latter two having signed in time to join up with the squad on their Florida Cup jaunt.

And 22- year- old Goss insists that the excursion to the sunshine state was the perfect introduction to his new side.

He said: “It was great to go away to Florida.

“That’s the best time to meet because you’re with them 24/7, so it was good in terms of team bonding.

“We had two really good games out there as well to get us going again ready for the league and Cup.”
