MSPs in plea to save 260 BiFab jobs
MSPs f rom f ive political parties have united to urge the UK Government to save jobs at Burntisland Fabrications.
The engineering f irm, known as BiFab, operate yards at Burntisland and Methil in Fife and Arnish on the isle of Lewis.
They notified the Scottish Government earlier this month of the potential for redundancies, with union leaders warning that 260 jobs could go by the summer.
In November, the yards were threatened with closure over a dispute with sub- contractors on the Beatrice wind farm contract for the Cromarty Firth.
Holyrood brokered a deal to stave off administration but BiFab say the work is almost complete with no new contracts in place.
Now 19 MSPs from the SNP, Labour, the Tories, Greens and Lib Dems have cal led on UK Business Secretary Greg Clark to do all he can to help BiFab.
They would like to see work for the Kincardine Offshore Windfarm Project awarded to the firm by the developers.
Union reps met Scottish Economy Secretary Keith Brown for talks on Thursday.
GMB Scotland’s Gary Smith said “everyone is doing everything in their power” to secure the jobs.
