“We may be knocked down but we are never knocked out!” – 2 Corinthians 4:9 (Phillips) Scottish speed skater Elise Christie’s falls at the Winter Olympics saddened us all. But the 2017 world champion’s determination to try again and again inspired everyone. The Bible tells of God inspiring us to stand again when we fall, but it is about surviving persecution and despair. J. B. Phillips’ translation is brilliant: Knocked down… but never knocked out!
