The CBI said: “Sougat Mukherjee has been asked to hand over his passport and mark regular presence at the offices of the Mumbai police. The CBI have not received requests from any authorities in Great Britain for his extradition.”
Mukherjee was detained in January 2015 at his home in Mumbai for Tracey’s murder.
The police case against him hinges on the CCTV, DNA and dental evidence.
Tracey was found dead in the bedroom of her top-floor flat in Barmulloch, Glasgow. It’s believed she was strangled.
Before her murder, Tracey, a sex worker, had been in the red- l ight a rea a round Blythswood Street, working to fund a heroin habit.
Mukherjee was a teenage student in Glasgow at the time but was only identified as a suspect 16 years later after a cold- case review in 2013 of existing DNA and CCTV evidence.
He arrived in the UK in August 1997 to do a one-year degree course at Glasgow College of Nautical Studies but went back to India eight months later.
