Frew beauty as David’s 2nd best

- Renfrew................ 2 Darvel.................... 1 Scott McHarg

David McKenna signed a short- term loan deal with Renfrew for game time – now he could be facing them in the SuperPremier next season.

McKenna was 10-man Frew’s matchwinner and that’s three in three games since making the loan switch from Beith.

The victory moved his new club above Cambuslang and into second place in the First Division and firmly on course for promotion.

McKenna said: “I came here to get playing time and after a few niggling injuries I now feel I’m ready to help the team get out of this league.

“We have a great bunch of boys and it would be a massive disappointment for everyone if we don’t gain promotion as we are in a strong position.

“From a personal point of view I was brought here to score goals and I’ve got off to a good start – and long may it continue.”

Frew took just two minutes to score through a Jamie Lyden header before Callum Walsh levelled for Darvel.

McKenna then got on the end of Kierin Maxwell’s free-kick to glance his header past David Markey for the all-important winning goal.

Frew were reduced to 10 men late on when Maxwel l was shown a second yellow card for Forde denying a breakthrough. Nicky Little then found Paul Byrne whose shot deflected off Ryan McChesney’s boot and needed the gloves of Brian McGarrity to stop from going in.

But the home side went in front when McGarrity spilled Forde’s 35-yard free-kick into the path of Stefan McCluskey who unselfishly cut back for skipper Gallacher.

The first half played out all Pollok but with no end product, which came back to haunt them in 65 minutes when Connor Lynas floated in a cross and an unmarked McCann sent his header past Jordan Longmuir.

Moments later Lok goal hero Gallacher had his arms around Kyle McAusland as he attempted to meet Jamie McKernon’s free-kick, leaving ref Garry Doherty no choice but to point to the penalty spot.

Despite Longmuir guessing correctly Dallas wouldn’t be denied a goal for a fourth straight game.

Controversy erupted in 76 minutes when Del Hepburn lifted in a corner and Gallacher nodded home to a rapturous applause only for Doherty to blow for a foul on McGarrity.

And Lok’s misery was compounded when Mark Sideserf overcooked a backpass to Longmuir that ended up with Dallas grabbing his second.

Lok boss Tony McInally said: “We bossed the game in the first half and missed chances to put it to bed.

“And in the second half that’s a different team that goes out.” dissent after kicking the ball away but his team-mates held out for a vital win.

Gutted Darvel boss Graeme Neil said: “I can’t believe we have not taken something from the game after totally dominating the second half.

“I can’t fault the boys’ effort as they gave me everything and we just need to be a bit more clinical in front of goal.

“We also gifted their goals which is something we have to look at.”
