I don’t regret KO to Man City offer

-

If Manchester City came calling for a player now most would jump at the chance.

But Mark Wi lson has revealed he REJECTED the Premier League giants as a 15-year- old to ply his trade at Dundee United.

He was offered a contract by City that involved a £400-a-week deal and a new home for his family.

But after a career that saw him play for boyhood club Celtic and Scotland, Wilson says he made the right decision. He said: “Who knows if I could have made it down at Manchester City?

“I went down there almost every weekend for a year and was playing beside Glenn Whelan for them.

“It was a great experience because I played academy games against Manchester United and at the Milk Cup in Northern Ireland. City offered me £400 a week to go down there, which was a lot for a kid. They also offered to relocate my family.

“It was a great of fer because mum and dad stayed in a council house in Broomhouse. They’re still there now.

“It was a big opportunity but fair play to my dad, he left it up to me.

“Dundee United were having success bringing through young players so I decided to stay there.

“Of course it would have been great to play in the Premier Leag ue on a 100-grand-a-week salary.

“But I’ve achieved what I wanted to in my career. I’m happy with my choices. I felt I’d have a better chance of playing first-team football at United. And I was right.”
