Al: Ref was Jacobs crackers

- Lindsay Herron

Dunfermline boss Allan Johnston reckons ref Don Robertson should have sent Queens star Kyle Jacobs off as his side chased a late winner.

But he feels his players are ultimately to blame for failing to end the stalemate.

Pars striker Declan McManus was through on goal in the inside left channel when Jacobs virtually rugby tackled him just outside the box in 79 minutes.

Robertson, though, only flashed a yellow card and let the Queen of the South midfielder off the hook.

East End Park boss Johnston said: “I spoke to the referee after the game and he said he thought Callum Fordyce was covering.

“But we have seen it on the video and he is clearly two or three yards behind the incident. It was definitely a sending-off.”

Jack Leighfield was the Queens saviour making three fine saves, most notably from James Craigen’s free kick which came after Jacobs’ foul on McManus.

Craigen’s effort took a deflection and Leighfield somehow kept the ball out with his right boot.

Palmerston boss Gary Naysmith thought a draw was the fair result.

He said: “We only deserved a point in terms of our performance. It looked like a game where neither side wanted to lose.

“In the first half our passing wasn’t good enough but we were better in the second half. However, Jack Leighfield has made a couple of good saves late on.”
