100 reasons for Ayr gaffer’s joy

-

Ian McCall saluted his Ayr side for becoming the first club in Britain to run up a century of goals this season and turning up the heat on leaders Raith.

Andy Geggan rifled in from close range to nab the landmark 100th goal before Lawrence Shankland hit a late double to take his own tally to 23.

And with Raith held at home by Arbroath, Ayr cut the gap to four points with a game in hand.

Somerset boss McCall said: “We’ve played better this season and scored a lot of goals but that’s the performance I am most proud of because Airdrie are a good side and I expect them to push next season.

“It’s a big three points and a terrific day for our club.”

Gutted Airdrie boss Stevie Findlay said: “We’ve had some poor second-half performances but that one topped it off.”
