Murty plays down title talk as gap is cut to six

-

pressure on Rangers’ closest rivals Aberdeen and Celtic who clash at Pittodrie today.

But when asked if his side could get involved in an Old Firm title race – Murty insists they’re not even on the Hoops’ radar.

He said: “I’m not sure we’re even in Celtic’s minds. They’re top of the league for good reason.

“They’ll take care of themselves and all we can do is worry about us and do our job.

“We did that today and that’s how we’ll go on.

“Other people can talk about a title race but Celtic are still the team to beat.

“We just want to make sure we finish the season as well as we possibly can.

“We took care of our own business today and these players are hungry to improve.

“We want to push forward and put ourselves in a good position to enjoy the latter part of the season.

“There will be interested eyes on Sunday’s game from our group but we’ll just take comfort – when we haven’t in the past – that we’ve taken care of what we had to do.” Rangers produced a convincing performance to beat Craig Levein’s side, with new boys Murphy and Greg Docherty stand-outs at Ibrox.

Murty was pleased with the way his side went about the game but wants them to be even more clinical in front of goal.

He said: “It was a thoroughly professional performance and we should have scored more goals.

“But under some pressure when things weren’t quite clicking, our guys found a way to create and score against a stubborn opponent.

“When people in the crowd were getting a bit nervous we continued to play our stuff.

“We had brave people getting on the ball.

“And I think we can get even better. The players we’ve brought in have quality and composure.

“They can deal with the ball in the manner we like.

“That’s why we got the likes of Jamie Murphy in as he’s the type of player who can make us better.”
