Levein’s relief at 2-0 limit

- Scott McDermott

Craig Levein says Hearts were LUCKY to get out of Ibrox with a 2- 0 defeat.

The Jambos had keeper Jon McLaughlin to thank for keeping the score down yesterday.

Rangers ran out worthy winners thanks to goals from Jamie Murphy and Russell Martin.

But Levein’s men rarely threatened at the other end and the Tynecastle boss admits they got what they deserved.

He’s hoping that their lacklustre display was in isolation – only their second defeat in 17 games – and they can put matters right against Kilmarnock on Tuesday night.

Levein said: “Truthfully, we probably got away with one today because the 2- 0 score flatters us.

“Our goalkeeper was excellent and our best players were defenders.

“We had a spell in the first half for 10 or 15 minutes but it didn’t last long enough.

“We lacked composure and although we missed a couple of chances, Rangers had a lot more than we did.

“That was unlike us because we’ve not lost many games recently.

“I’m just looking forward to Tuesday now to get rid of this taste in my mouth.”

McLaughl in has put himself in contention for a Scotland call-up in March with a string of superb displays for the Jambos.

He pulled off at least four fantastic saves to keep the score down here – and his manager is delighted with his form.

Levein sa id: “He’s certainly doing well and he has a great clean-sheet record for us.

“A lot of them are down to the defence but just as many are down to him. You saw how good he is today, he kept the score down.

“I think he’s playing at the top of his game right now for sure.”
