in court in connection with the attack.

Police say last Thursday’s attack on Barclay was targeted and described it as “violent and sustained”.

He had just left his family in a car in Springburn’s Dykemuir Street when he was pounced on in the street by two men who opened fire but missed.

They gave chase and attacked him repeatedly with a bladed weapon, causing serious injuries.

Detective Superintendent Kenny Graham said : “I ’ m convinced there will have been plenty of people who witnessed this incident and it is absolutely vital they come forward.”

Barclay walked free from the High Court in Edinburgh last June when he stood trial for the attempted murder of Mark Bristow, 32, who was left paralysed after being knocked down then shot at point- blank range in May 2015.

Barclay’s DNA was found in the abandoned car and on a match at the scene in Royston, Glasgow.

But a jury found the case against him not proven while a judge acquitted his uncle Joseph Barclay, 41, and John Gallagher, 50.

Barclay, who denied any involvement, was convicted of reset of a stolen motor and admonished.

Gemma travelled through to the capital for the trial and was pictured hugging Barclay outside the court following the verdict.

The jury heard Bristow’s injuries were so bad he will need lifelong help with his daily needs.
