Scott backed by Fury

-

star Stephen Gal lacher is in contention for the Indian Open title at the DFL Club in New Delhi.

The 43- year- old nephew of Ryder Cup legend Bernard Gallacher is sitting in third after four birdies in his last six holes to score a 67.

Gallacher’s birdie blitz leaves him jus t one shot of f leaders Shubhankar Sharma and England’s Matt Wallace.

Hotly-tipped Sharma, who last week received a special invitation to play at this year’s Masters, had a fantastic round on his home course.

He birdied the final hole to finish on 72 and share the lead at seven under going into the final round.

The 21-year-old is now in a red-hot battle with Wallace, whose form slip at the death cost him two late bogeys and saw him f inish with a two-under 70.

Sharma double bogeyed the 17th before pulling a shot back at the closing par five.

He said: “I’m going to draw from my experiences last week. I know it’s going to be a battle out there and I’ ll be ready for it.”

The rising star was ranked 202 in the world at the end of 2017, but has risen to 66.

Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley said last week that the Masters has a history of inviting international players not otherwise qualified, and Sharma’s results have made him worthy of the invitation.

On a day when only nine players carded under-par rounds 27-year- old Wallace bagged four birdies and an eagle before he dropped shots at the 16th and 17th. Tyson Fury wants a night out with fellow fallen world champ Scott Harrison – and is gutted the Scot is still behind bars.

Heavyweight Fury is heading to Scotland for an ‘ Evening with. . .’ night o r g a n i s e d b y F SG Promotions at Glasgow’s Radisson Blu on March 17.

And the self-styled ‘Gypsy King’ is disappointed he won’t get an opportunity to hook up with jailed Harrison during his trip north.

Harrison is still serving a four-year prison sentence for assaulting three men outside a Spanish brothel.

But Fury shrugged: “I think all good fighting men like a drink – Scott Harrison included. He was a good one, wasn’t he? I’d love to take him out for a drink.

“It is what it is. People get in trouble and we learn from our mistakes. I’ve had loads of fights outside pubs.

“I ’ ve had handicap matches of three on one.”

Fury was on top of the world when he beat Wladimir Klitschko to be crowned heav yweight champion in 2015 but was stripped of his WBA, WBO and IBF belts after his much publicised drug problems.

But Fury was given the al l- clear to resume his career in December by UK Anti- Doping after being handed a back-dated ban.

He confirmed he is back in training for a potential £ 100 million showdown against fellow Brit Anthony Joshua later this year.

He said: “I’m not in shape at the minute but I will be shortly and I’ll take on all comers as I always do.”

An Evening with Tyson Fury by FSG and Goldstar Promotions is at Glasgow’s Radisson Blu on March 17. For more info call 07767 636366.
