Doorstep rant cop is cleared by sheriff

-

A police officer was arrested by colleagues after a furious bust-up with his ex-partner.

Detective Constable Omar Sheikh, 38, lost his temper while looking after the woman’s three children, a court was told.

He texted and phoned her saying he couldn’t cope and ranted that the kids were “spoiled little brats”.

And when she arrived at his home in Kilmarnock to pick them up, her new lover filmed him throwing items out of the house.

Sheikh, who has 17 years’ service, was cleared by a sheri ff of domestical ly aggravated threatening or abusive behaviour.

But Kilmarnock sheriff Michael Hanlon told him: “I’m not sure I’ve got a whole picture of what happened on the night in question.”

Sheikh’s ex, a 36-year-old teacher, told the court: “He was verbal ly abusive, threatening and threw a blanket and dummy which hit me on the face.

“He was shouting and swearing very close to me in a blind rage. Unfortunately, alcohol can sometimes change his mood.”

Sheikh told the court: “When she said that I was unreliable, it struck a nerve because I’m trying my best.”

He admitted calling the children “spoilt brats” and said that he had lied about having had a drink so he didn’t have to drive his ex’s kids to her home.

Sheriff Hanlon added the situation “could have been handled in a better way”.
