I DON’T WANT TO BE BURDEN ON MY FAMILY Star’s dementia fears

-

28 Sunday Mail Actress Jane Seymour fears she may get Alzheimer’s – and has chosen a care home so she won’t be “a burden on people”.

The 67-year-old Hollywood star, who lost an uncle to the disease, said: “He had Alzheimer’s and it killed my aunt, who didn’t have it but cared for him.

“The issue is two-fold. One is to find a cure – because one in two people will get it or dementia by the time they are 80 – and the other is to help the carers.

“I think it wor r ies everyone because you become such a burden on people. The person with Alzheimer’s doesn’t know but the people around do.

“If you’re going to get it, you’re going to get it – that’s the sad thing.

“I’ve spoken to my partner about it. I’ve figured out the home I will be happy in. But hopefully it won’t happen.”

Jane – who last month became the oldest Playboy model – campaigns to raise awareness of the disease, the most common form of dementia affecting 850,000 people in the UK.

Her production company made a film called I’ll Be Me with singer Glenn Campbell, who died of Alzheimer’s aged 81 in August.

The film-makers followed the singer on his last tour in 2011 after his diagnosis.

Speaking at the National Film Awards in London, she said: “The movie was well received in America but hasn’t been here yet – I don’t know why.”
