Dicker: Rivals only hate Killie pitch if they lose

- Steven Mair

Gary Dicker reckons teams are using the quality of the 4G pitch at Rugby Park as an excuse for their own failings.

The Kilmarnock midfielder will sign a new two-year contract tomorrow, joining Greg Kiltie, Rory McKenzie and Alan Power in committing themselves to Steve Clarke’s revolution.

Since the start of the year Killie have enjoyed home wins over the likes of Celtic, Hibs, Dundee, Ross County and St Johnstone.

And Dicker believes they aren’t getting the credit they deserve amid the controversy over the Rugby Park plastic pitch.

He said: “I didn’t hear anyone moaning about the pitch when they were picking up points here.

“They flipped it the other way and said they enjoyed coming here. Anyway, some of the grass pitches we’ve played on recently have been terrible – there hasn’t been a blade of grass on them.

“Teams haven’t picked up any points and are looking for an excuse. Try look at yourself first.

“The easy thing to do is say the pitch wasn’t great.

“Maybe it’s something to do with us – our players and boss.”

It has been a busy week for Clarke, who tied up attacker McKenzie on Friday before sorting a new deal for Dicker.

The Irishman insists the low of being a game away f rom relegation when he first joined Killie makes the highs of this season all the sweeter.

He said: “I’ll have been here two- and- a- half seasons this summer. The last five months couldn’t have gone better.”
