Davies ‘sorry’ for red

-

Staggies sinner Andrew Davies last night apologised to his team-mates for his red card madness.

Ross County stand-in boss Stuart Kettlewell revealed his sent-off skipper had held up his hands in the dressing room after the game.

His red for a reckless stamp on Scott Brown wrecked any hope that County could hold off Celts.

And they now face one of their biggest games of the season against drop rivals Partick on Tuesday without their suspended captain.

Kettlewel l said: “You never want to go down to 10 men – especially not against the best team in the country.

“It ma de the t a sk exceptionally hard for us but the players gave us everything they had.

“Andrew’s an honest guy and influential player. He’s a leader, our captain. I’ve not had a look at the incident – but obviously you saw there was a reaction from the Celtic players.

“Andrew’s disappointed so we’ll speak to him.

“He obviously felt there was a contact. He’s not said much other than sorry for being sent off.

“He apologised to us all and that’s what pros do. It’s what a captain would do in that kind of situation.

“Once the dust settles we will look at the situation and speak to him and see how we move forward.

“But we’ ll let the dust settle first. It can be a bit raw after the game.

“In our position there’s often questions asked about if players are with you or if they are worried.

“But you could see from the players that finished on the pitch and the guys who came off – Billy Mckay and Alex Schalk – I don’t think there was another ounce that they could have given.”
