Well’s Main man set to tough it out

-

Curtis Main is well aware of Motherwell’s tough reputation. And he knows they’re expected to be in Celtic’s faces right from the off. Which is fine by him. His side’s physicality and directness has been their hall mark, their take- noprisoners style seeing them to Hampden in both cups.

And with a f irst major trophy in 27 years beckoning, the 25-year-old sees no reason to change now.

Main said: “If you come up against Motherwell you’re not going to have an easy day. “It’s in the club’s DNA. “We work extremely hard for one another and try to be as tough as possible.

“We don’t fear Celtic but Hampden is a different ball game, everybody is going to be right up for it.

“Everyone knows what’s at stake on Saturday.

“Whoever wants it the most will come out on top.”

It was a decade ago this week since Main made his debut for Darlington at just 15. Since then he has played for six clubs in four divisions.

He laughed and said: “Where have those 10 years gone. I still feel young at 25. Ten years in the game but it has been full of experience.

“At 15 your head is full of dreams, you want to play in the big occasions.

“And I’m happy to be in one next weekend.

“It’s definitely different to what I’m used to, the whole set-up, behind the scenes, the dressing-rooms and the way the pitch is.

“But you just have to take it in your stride.”

Main has achieved what most fans thought impossible by replacing Louis Moult in both their hearts and in the scoring charts.

His eight goals in 20 games have been vital for the second half of Motherwell’s season.

He said: “I didn’t realise the special relationship Louis had with the supporters.

“Thankfully I was able to get off the mark quickly and that got the fans onside.

“I like to think I have done things my own way which has helped the team.”
