The standout in a cagey affair, Kris Doolan scored the goal that could well keep Partick in the Premiershi­p. His low, toe-poke finish wasn’t pretty – but got the job done.

Doolan struck seven minutes after coming off the bench as Archiba ld’s men avoided automatic relegation.

Doolan said: “I would like to think I’ve got my starting place back. I would think scoring goals as a striker would help my case but it’s the gaffer’s decision so we’ll see what happens.

“It was tough watching from the sidelines to be honest. I was disappoint­ed not to start in a big game like that.

“I was hoping to get the nod as those games normally suit me.

“But I don’t moan about it. I don’t go chapping on doors and demanding answers.

“You just take it on the chin as it’s to the benefit of the team. But every time I am on the park, I feel as though I can score a goal.

“As soon as it was just me and the goalie, it was only going one place - in the back of the net. I
