CELTIC V ABERDEEN

-

Graeme Shinnie has warned a dozen pals that he’ll pull out of his own stag party to win a first Scotland cap in the Americas this summer.

The Aberdeen star will wed partner Jodie on June 9, six days after Scotland’s second end-ofseason friendly against Mexico at the Azteca Stadium.

A week before that Shinnie should be in Marbella for a stag do that has been planned for months.

But he’ll ditch it if he gets the nod from Alex McLeish to take part in the bounce games against sides from Peru and Mexico.

The 26-year-old is desperate to be on the Scotland trip and win his first full cap.

And Shinnie says if he gets the nod, his friends will be heading to Spain without him.

Despite being regularly touted for his country by club gaffer Derek McInnes, he hasn’t been given a chance at international level yet.

Shinnie said: “The wedding is on June 9 so the Scotland dates fit in fine with that.

“My missus might not be too happy if I get picked, right enough!

“But I’m desperate to get my first cap so I’d love to be on the plane to Peru and Mexico.

“I want a cap on my record so I’d be delighted to be called up.

“It has been a long season and players need a break. But it’s an ambition of mine to get a cap under my belt.

“So I’d love to be there. Playing for Scotland is never something I’d shy away from.

“And it’s not the missus I’ll need to speak to, it’s the boys.

“I might need to buy them tickets to go to South America because my stag do is bang on the Scotland dates.

“I’d miss the trip to Marbella but it’s more important to get a cap.

“They’d just need to go without me. There’s meant to be about a dozen going and they’ve already said they’ll still go even if I get called up. But for me, getting a cap
