I’ll never match Big Jock

-

Brendan Rodgers says he’ll never get close to Jock Stein’s iconic status at Celtic – even if he seals a historic double Treble this season.

Hoops boss Rodgers is already a Parkhead legend after his team went through last season unbeaten and snared three trophies.

Stein and Martin O’Neill are the only others who have won a Treble at the club.

But now the Northern Irishman could achieve something NO Hoops boss has ever done if they beat Motherwell in the Scottish Cup Final to double up.

Still Rodgers insists Stein is on another level again.

Rodgers said: “Jock was the pioneer for Brit ish coaches. You think of Sir Alex Ferguson and the esteem he held Jock in.

“Bill Shankly felt the same way about Stein.

“Being the first British manager to break the cycle and win the European Cup – that puts him way out there on his own.

“He was the ultimate manager for Celt ic in everything he did.

“There have been a lot of great managers after him but I’m just happy to be in this job I love.

“I’m in no hurry to leave but I’ll get booted at some point. Hopefully I’ll leave a feeling behind, that people have enjoyed my time here.

“But no, the likes of Jock Stein is why al l of us supported Celtic as boys.”
