the US with Sturgeon last year where they announced the creation of new PhD scholarships in economics on a visit to Stanford University.

Fees at the Edinburgh Business School, who have campuses in Dubai and Malaysia, can cost up to £22,000.

They are a registered charity and are working to restore Panmure House in Edinburgh – the historic home of economist Adam Smith – as a teaching building.

An Edinburgh Business School spokeswoman said: “Professor Heather McGregor is a business leader, mentor and entrepreneur who has been sharing her business experience with our students since she joined in 2016.

“She is a respected member of the business community, who serves as a non- executive director for two highly r e g u l a t ed pub l i c companies.

“Heather is a strong champion of diversity in the workplace and a co-founder of the 30% Club, who campaign for greater representation of women on the boards of FTSE100 companies.

“She is also the founder of the Taylor Bennett Foundation, who work to promote diversity in the c ommu n i c a t i o n s industry.”

The spokeswoman added that the school received no publ ic funding.

A spokesman for the Scottish Government said: “We welcome the UK Government ’ s decision to reduce the maximum stake on FOBTs to £ 2 and commend all of those who have campaigned for such a move.

“We have argued for the full devolution of gambling, however the Scotland Act 2016 included a very limited power in relation to certain machines in new betting shops.

“This reduction of the maximum stake will effectively remove this power, and therefore we will reflect further on any impact this move has and on what powers we feel are appropriate to tackle problem gambling in Scotland.”

Glasgow North East MP Paul Sweeney backed moves to cut the maximum stake and described FOBTs as a “scourge in some of Scotland’s poorest communities”.

The Labour politician added: “There are huge ethical questions with companies who profit from this industry and people in public roles should show moral leadership.”
