MINISTER SLAMS TORIES’ MIGRANT POLICY

- Cabinet Secretary for External Affairs

Their fixation on reducing migration is hugely concerning and every week we see cases which highlight how hostile their current policy is, as shown by the shameful treatment of the Windrush generation.

In Scotland, even more cases are coming to light, such as that of Denzel Darku, a Queen’s baton relay holder for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games who was issued with a removal notice.

Denzel, 23, who came to live in Scotland with his dad at the age of 14, has already made a huge contribution to Scotland.

Aside from being an ambassador for Scotland in the relay, he has been a member of the Scottish Youth Parliament, a volunteer for Action for Children and began studying to become a nurse in our NHS.

It is an utter disgrace that the UK Government is now trying to force him to leave Scotland, and his father, when he has contributed so much and built his life here. He is a credit to Scotland and should be treated as such.

We know he is not alone. People who legally entered Scotland, who have become valued members of our communities and are working in our schools, hospitals and local businesses, are now being issued with removal notices. Even those who came here as children and have grown

We should be proud people want to come here, not turn them away
