SPORTS LOG

Andy Murray has been handed another huge test a s he cont inues h i s comeback trail tomorrow.

Last week his first game in a year was a defeat to Aussie ace Nick Kyrgios and now he’s been drawn against three- time Grand Slam champ Stan Wawrinka in his Eastbourne opener.

Both players have recently returned from long- term injuries and are hoping to prove their fitness in time for Wimbledon on July 2.

Murray won his first set against hothead Kyrgios but f inally lost in a deciding tiebreak after playing better than many expected.

However, he doubted his ability to play best- of-fiveset matches and insisted he could miss the Wimbledon tournament he won in 2013 and 2016.

The Scots has slid to 156th in the rankings while Swiss star Wawrinka is 261st after knee surgery in 2017.

The winner wil l play second seed Kyle Edmund who has risen to become Britain’s No.1 in Murray’s long-term absense. Paul di Resta bounced back from last week’s crash by finishing fourth at the DTM Championship race at Germany’s Norisring.

Despite a dissapointing exit at Le Mans the West Lothian speedster remains third in the standings – 18 points behind team-mate Gary Paffett.

The ex-Formula One star will be aiming to add to his 2010 title. Scot t ish No. 1 Lisa Aitken edged closer to her first Squash Association title of the year.

The top seed has yet to drop a game at the Bangor Classic in Wales and took less than half an hour to breeze past eighth seed Grace Gear 11-3, 11-8, 11-8.

She said: “I’m glad I won in three games and can go into the final fresh.”
