Chris is our new McLean

-

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes reckons new recruit Chris Forrester is a midfield matchwinner in the Kenny McLean mould.

Irish ace Forrester, a £ 200,000 signing f rom Peterborough, h it the ground running as he made it a perfect homecoming with the only goal in the 1- 0 victory over Cobh Ramblers in Cork.

The 25-year- old’s strike had his new manager purring and McInnes is confident Forrester can blossom at Pittodrie just like Scotland star McLean who has moved on to Norwich.

McInnes said: “Chris is a confident boy, you see him playing with his head up.

“That’s the first thing you notice about him, his touch is so true. He has to get used to us as well, he has to make his game more rounded to fit in with our team.

“His touch, passing ability and goal threat were all evident there and that’s why we brought him here.

“He was the difference and it was a lovely finish.

“You saw his quality, he can be a matchwinner for us. Sometimes you need forward players to turn a single point into three and he can do that.

“He can score goals and make them for other people, that’s important to him.

“He wants to be seen as someone who can make things happen in the final third rather than just being a good passer.

“When Kenny McLean came here he was St Mirren’s talisman, the player who could make a difference for them. Kenny became that for us in time but also a far more rounded player.

“Chris can do that for us, he can carry that threat and become an all-round player.”
