No Brexit fear for car buyers

-

Brexit is having almost no impact on consumers’ car buying plans, according to a survey of more than 1000 motorists.

Despite uncertainty about a “deal or no deal” departure next March, 80 per cent of drivers replied “not at all” when asked if Brexit was affecting their car-buying intentions.

Only about five per cent said they are delaying a purchase decision, in the poll by retail specialist BuyaCar.co.uk.

Nets are everywhere to catch the inev itable rockfal ls when the weather turns.

We are testing the new Peugeot 508 on some of the most spectacular roads I have driven on in a long time.

The 508, the flagship of the Peugeot range, is not too shabby either. It comes from the pen of Gilles Vidal, who designed the highly successful 3008 and 5008 and is now offering us this beautiful family saloon.

Elegant and ref ined, it has a wide rear with a small integral spoiler and Peugeot’s t rademark l ion’s claw taillights above a two stroke indicator. The silhouette is long and lean and the front lays home to the classic 504 with a 508 badge above the lion grille.

But it is the interior that will make you sigh. According to Peugeot, Vidal has designed this car around the interior of the Exalt Concept car first unveiled at the 2014 Paris motor show.

There is wood veneer, leather seats and a choice of ambient lighting all surrounding the famous i-Cockpit. This means the driver sits in the car rather than on it and has the instruments angled towards them.

The GT has a sporty square leather steer ing wheel in f ront of the instrument binnacle, which shows you information such as the speed limit and the speed you are going at. On the touchscreen is all the information you will need and the 508 also has the easy one-touch keys below. It has driving modes to match your needs such as Dynamic and Eco. Driver aids include a hands- free tailgate, adaptive cruise control, park assist, electric power steering and night vision. The new 508 comes with the full range of tech and safety features including mirror screen, wireless charging, lane keepk assist and blind spotmspotmonitoring. It aalso drives like a dream. I testtested the 2.0- litre diesel autoautomatic with a top speed of 14146mph. It was smooth and willingwill and held the road well, wel especially on those mountainousmou bends. At the samesam time, it was quiet and justjus soaked up the bumps. ThisTh 508 family saloon is big and beautiful.
