Plymouth Argyle new boy Peter Grant says he’s ready to crack English football at the second attempt.

The defender completed his move from Falkirk to Home Park last week where he’ll work under Scottish gaffer Derek Adams.

Grant started his career at Peterborough but never made the breakthrough before heading north of the border in 2014.

He excelled at the Bairns, scoring in their Scottish Cup Final defeat to Inverness Caley Thistle three years ago.

And he reckons the grounding he’s had in the Championship is the perfect preparation for life in England’s League One.

The 24- year- old said: “Scoring at Hampden is something I’ll cherish from my time in Scotland. But it was a bittersweet day.

“Coming here I feel I’m well prepared having played against the likes of Rangers, Hearts and Hibs.

“I feel well equipped to put my stamp on the league. But my aim is just to get in the team, stay there and get the club back to where it belongs.

“I was at Peterborough and around the first-team group when they were in the Championship. So I know how tough it is down here.

“I have the temperament that makes me want to improve all the time. I get that from my dad – it’s one of the attributes that can help me succeed.”

Grant wi l l be forever compared to famous dad, Peter Snr, who became a Celtic icon during 15 years at Parkhead.

He’ll always be a source of support and advice but young Peter says they’re different players - even if the Scotland No.2’s work ethic has clearly rubbed off.

Grant said: “Dad’s career and my own are completely separate. But what he has always done is guide me and be there if I need advice.

“I was too young to watch him play live but I’ve seen videos and know he gave 100 per cent every time.

“I’ve taken that on too, I try to give my best every day.

“My dad has been a huge inf luence and if I can emulate the kind of career he’s had I’d be very happy.”
