Hugo’s boss is inspiration for Les Bleus

-

Hugo Lloris believes having France’s only World Cup winning captain as their gaffer can help them go all the way in Russia.

The Spurs and Les Bleus No.1 is convinced they can win the trophy after coming through a quarter-final joust with Uruguay.

Lloris was superb in the 2-0 victory which set up a last-four clash with Belgium on Tuesday.

And at the business end of the tournament, the skipper says boss Didier Deschamps’ influence could be vital.

The midf i e l d e r skippered France in 1998 when they became champions for the first and only time.

Now Lloris has the armband – and wants to bring home the cup.

He said: “The manager has amazing experience as a player and captain. He won the World Cup, the only one we’ve won.

“So hopefully we can repeat that process and do it again this year.

“But to win the semifinal we’ll need to play at an even better level than we did against Uruguay.

“We’ l l be up against a team with some fantastic players. I hope we’re ready.”

Lloris will come up against some of his Spurs teammates in the semi- final with Jan Ver tonghen, Toby A lderwei r eld and Mousa Dembele in the Belgium squad.

And the Tottenham stopper says it would be great for the club if any of them got their hands on the trophy.

He said: “What has happened so far is good for the image of the club.

“Hopefully a Tottenham player will be a World Cup winner. Obviously there is one I wish for the most!

“There are still two games to go so we’ll see.”

Lloris was delighted with his own display against Uruguay and he kept his side in front at 1- 0 with a terrific save to deny Martin Caceres.

But despite jubilation at the end, he offered sympathy for opposite number Fernando Muslera – who allowed Antoine Griezmann’s shot to slip through and gift France their second.

On his save, Lloris said: “Everything went so fast. The important thing was my first move was towards the ball.

“Then I had to get up because the ball was still alive. I had to make myself as big as possible.

“I felt sorry for Muslera because he’s one of the best keepers in the world. He deser ved better.”
