HOUSE TECHNO FAN’S BIRTHDAY MUSIC GIFT IS A BIG HIT

Dance stars jet in from Amsterdam for garden gig

There are plenty of music fans who celebrate their birthday by going to a gig.

But techno fan James Doull went one better by bringing his dream concert to his back garden.

James, 30, who is confined to a wheelchair with spina bi f ida, contacted Dutch hardstyle dance duo Sound Rush with a speculativ­e request for them to come to his home in Irvine. To his astonishme­nt, Martijn and Jeroen Boeren said yes.

Sound Rush flew from Amsterdam to Glasgow to play a one-hour set for 40 friends who attended the bash.

James has been a fan of the twins since they first played in Scotland – in Ayr –three years ago. At the time, they were an up-and-coming group.

Now they are one of the biggest global hardstyle acts and last month played in front of 80,000 people at a concert near Amsterdam.

James said: “I wanted to celebrate my birthday in style on June 27 so I organised something special. I contacted Sound Rush a few days earlier to see if they would do a set at my house and they accepted my offer – free of charge. They even paid for their flights and hotel.

“Sound Rush are massive and have 79,000 followers on their social media fan page. Last month they played in front of 80,000 people on the main stage at the biggest hardstyle festival tival in the world.

“So for me it was a great honour and proud moment to have them play new music at that festival and then play the same set in my back garden.

Martijn said he and Jeroen, who are both 26, were delighted to do the concert for James. He added : “We know he is a great fan of our music and came to one of our first ever performanc­es.”
