Fury as mortgage reclaim firm vanish

-

chased again in November and was advised her claim was being looked into and they would write to her.

But when she head nothing more, Janice demanded a refund in January and threatened to go to a lawyer.

She said: “Again I was told my claim was being investigated.”

John is in a similar position, except his £17,200 mortgage was with the Leeds Permanent building society.

He signed up with Resolution in April last year, sent paperwork and paid £ 395 by bank transfer in June.

Delivery driver John, 65, of Livingston, said: “Resolution sent a letter explaining the £ 395 covered the cost through to completion. They charged a win fee of 20 per cent minus the £ 395 upon successful conclusion of the claim.”

In August, they wrote to John asking for more information about his mortgage. But the trail went cold after that. He said: “I kept calling and emailing but got nowhere.

“I did receive a return call from a Lee Wilson, who I later found out was the boss. But I could never reach him when I called back.”

I quickly discovered that Wilson, based in Cheshire, had previously dissolved another endowment claims firm, Stanley Porters & Co, owing more than £500,000.

A loophole means claims management firms do not have to be regulated in Scotland.

When I contacted Resolution in May, I discovered the Cumbernauld address to be a mailing address. Janice and John are still waiting.

I am now pursuing claims for them via their banks and Trading Standards are on the case.

They said: “If consumers have issues, they can contact us on 03454 040506.”
