The good, the bad & the ugly Mixed bag for Kenny as Livi reign starts with win

- Airdrie ....................1 Livingston .............2

Kenny Miller bagged his first win as Livingston player/boss and insisted his men showed their good, bad and ugly side.

Goals from Scott Pittman and old warhorse Lee Miller were enough to hand the Lions victory in this Group F tie.

Despite Darryl Duffy pulling one back for the Diamonds after the break it was not enough to prevent Miller’s Premiership new boys getting his managerial career off to a flying start with a first competitive success.

The ex-Rangers and Scotland star said: “There were some very good things and some not so good things about our display.

“We scored two quick- f ire goals that should have settled us and should have scored more if we were a bit more clinical.

“We showed some intensity in the first half but took our foot off the gas and thought it was going On-loan Motherwell midfielder Shea Gordon had a dream debut as Partick Thistle opened their Betfred Cup campaign with a win at Ochilview. Gordon rattled home two goals in the first six minutes to sink Stenny. Blair Spittall set up Thistle’s first with a delivery into the box which was coolly knocked home by Gordon, followed by a first-time flick over Stenny keeper Graeme Smith to double Thistle’s lead. Boss Archibald said:“It’s really good to get off to a winning start. “It was a fantastic game for Shea, he has done ever so well in pre season.” Ayr boss Ian McCall hailed Lawrence Shankland after the striker bagged a second-half hat-trick to destroy Championship rivals Morton. Michael Tidser had fired Morton ahead with a low free-kick in 14 minutes. But they had no answer to Shankland’s lethal finishing after the break. The hitman angled home a header in 50 minutes, added No.2 with a shot from the left in 73 minutes and completed his treble three minutes later when he chipped onrushing keeper Ryan Scully. McCall said: “Lawrence was outstanding and we were excellent to watch.”
