Kyljoys not fun to back

-

So England won’t be bringing footbal l home after their semi-final defeat to Croatia – the best result in Scottish football history.

Instead, it’s a battle of little versus large. Mighty footbal l ing superpower France v the tricky-to-placeon-a-map Croatia.

The politely intrigued Rus s i an fans s it t ing alongside the misguided Englishmen who mortgaged their homes for tickets.

As a World Cup it’s hard to know where it sits in the pantheon of time. In the group stage, Twitter was declaring it as the greatest.

We’ve seen drama – look at the whole, baf f l ing Spain manager change on the eve of the tournament.

We’ve also seen plenty of goals. Again, Spain, in their first game, serving up that delicious 3- 3 when they faced Cristiano Ronaldo.

And, perhaps best of all, we’ve seen poor Mark Clattenburg sitting in a truck translating VAR.

I suppose the real history maker will be if Croatia win.

L u k a Mo d r i c h a s played himself into Golden Ball contention and Mario Mandzukic has been his belligerent b*****d self.

If that isn’t enough for you to support them – after the semi their coach and players were delighted to slag off England.

And cheering on France isn’t much fun anyway. Yes, isn’t it lovely how great super-sweet Kylian Mbappe is performing.

Oh wait. What’s that? He’s the second most expensive footballer of all time? Yeah, kinda ruins the fairytale.

But the best thing about the end of the World Cup? It starts the countdown until Scotland kick off the maiden Nations League against Albania and the nation can start dreaming of remixing Al-y’s Tartan Army.
