RY CAN EXCITE

- Scott McDermott

Joe Cole has backed Rangers new boy Ryan Kent to get Ibrox punters off their seats.

The former Chelsea, Liverpool and England star played alongside the Anfield youngster during a spell at Coventry City.

And Cole is convinced Kent (left) – who has agreed a season-long loan deal at Gers – will be a terrific addition for gaffer Steven

Gerrard. Cole believes Kent will excite the supporters and has tipped old England pal Gerrard to get the best out of him.

Cole told MailSport: “It’s a move that suits all parties and the Rangers fans are going to be excited watching Ryan play.

“He’s one of those players who gets supporters off their feet.

“And I’ve no doubts that Steven is the ideal guy to go and progress Ryan’s career at this stage.

“This is a great move for Liverpool because it will improve him as a player, for Kenty joining a massive club and for Rangers because he’s a top young player.

“The thing I loved about him was that he’s so two-footed. He can dribble with both feet and go either side. He’s got a bit of everything as a winger.

“And he won’t be fazed playing in front of 50,000 at Ibrox every week.

“He struck me straight away at Coventry as a lad who would thrive off something like that and enjoy it.

“He’s ready to go and make a real impact at a big club like Rangers.”

Kent should train with his new Rangers team-mates tomorrow after sealing the loan deal. The 21-year-old is expected in Glasgow today to complete a medical before joining the rest of Steven Gerrard’s squad.

Kent will become the Ibrox gaffer’s 10th summer signing but Gerrard is no closer to securing a new defender before Thursday’s Europa League clash with Osijek.

MailSport understands a third Rangers bid for Millwall centreback Jake Cooper is unlikely – and the London club believe any potential move to Ibrox is dead.

The Lions rejected a £3million offer last week and there has been no contact between the clubs since.

Gerrard is keeping tabs on Blackpool stopper Curtis Tilt, who has been assessed by Gers’ scouts.

But it’s understood that the 26-year-old isn’t high on the manager’s list of defensive targets.

And as he continues to reshape his new-look squad, MailSport understands that Rotherham United and Shrewsbury Town have expressed an interest in signing midfielder Greg Docherty on loan.

While Gerrard isn’t pushing the ex-Hamilton midfielder out the door, he’ll be allowed to go elsewhere if the right offer comes in.

Meanwhile, Ibrox full-back Lee Hodson is likely to leave the club by mutual agreement.
