Star can’t wait to age.. and show off her cackle
Actress Kelly Macdonald wants to age badly – so she can play a witch.
The Trainspotting star has revealed it is her ambition to be cast in a role as an old crone. The 42-year-old said: “I’m sure that in about 10 years I’ll be playing old hags from then on. “I can’t wait. I’ve never played a witch and I’ve got a great cackle. “I feel l ike I ’ l l be working till my dying day. I could play a witch forever.” Kelly, who is to appear in the BBC One Netflix thriller Giri/Haji, said in a US interview that she is snowed under with job offers – just when her two children, Teddy, four, and Freddie, seven, need her most.
The mum, who is separated from her husband, Travis guitarist Dougie Payne, claimed she has to turn down work for the sake of her sons. She told Indewire.com: “Previously I did one job a year and sometimes it would stretch to two years and I’d start to think about a serious career change.
“Then something amazing would turn up.
“Annoyingly, now that I can’t just work back- to- back and go off travelling the world, I’m getting offered quite a lot.
“I’m turning down roles. I’ve definitely become a bit more picky about what takes me away from my kids.”
Kelly’s latest film Puzzle, with Life Of Pi’s Irrfan Khan, will be released in the UK in September.
She plays a downtrodden wife whose life is transformed as her uncanny ability to solve the hardest jigsaw puzzles leads to major competitions.
The Boardwalk Empire actress added: “Every job that I got after Trainspotting I felt was a bonus.
“Now I’m pretty certain this is it – this is my career.”
