I ggot the chance to get to ggrips with the Lexus on a mix of roads from fasfast motorways to tight,tig twisting hillside B-roads between Zurich and Lucerne and was amazed aat how smooth, quiet and utterly effortlesslyeffor the big RX performed. This was motoring as it should be, with Switzerland’s silky-smooth billiard table-like road surfaces providing the perfect stomping ground for what many consider to be the finest hybrid available. For the UK market, three distinct specifications are available. First up is the £ 50,995 SE, complete with a list of standard equipment that puts others to shame. This starter package comes fully loaded with a host of goodies including luxury leather upholstery, sat nav system with eight-inch screen, the choice of four driving modes, 18- inch alloys and nine-speaker audio system.
Next up is the even more luxurious Luxury version which, at £59,095, Lexus predict will become the best seller.
Topping the range is the Premier, which comes with a £ 61,995 price tag.
Safety aspects feature high in any Lexus offering and the RX L is equipped with the latest Safety System+ – a multi-feature, integrated package which gives exceptional levels of active safety and driver assistance features to help prevent accidents from happening.
At the core is a front-mounted camera coupled with a radar system. Between them, they can “read” the road ahead and warn the driver if a collision is imminent. If the driver fails to respond, the brakes are automatically applied while the seatbelts are tightened.
Other features include adaptive cruise control, lane assist, blind spot monitor, sway warning and rear cross traffic alert, while no fewer than 10 airbags will help protect all those on board.
