Watt a chance for Tony

-

Neil Lennon bel ieves St Johnstone provide the perfect platform for Tony Watt to relaunch his career.

Lennon takes his Hibs side to McDiarmid Park today well aware of the threat posed by the former Celtic starlet.

The 47-year-old handed Watt his Hoops debut in 2012 and just seven months later the teenager wrote his name into folklore by scoring the winner in a 2-1 triumph over Barcelona.

Watt’s career has since stalled at Standard Liege, Charlton and Leuven, with loan stints at Cardiff, Blackburn and Hearts.

But he’s hoping for a fresh start in Perth and Lennon knows he can hurt Hibs.

The Easter Road boss said: “Tony has had a lot of moves and a few clubs in a short time. He will be looking for some stability.

“St Johnstone are the sort of team who are going to give him that.”

Saints were a bogey team for the Hibees last term but Lennon wants to make sure his side build on their impressive opening win over Motherwell.

He said: “Saints are a team we didn’t manage to beat all of last season so we want to rectify that.

“Tommy Wright is a wily manager – very smart, very shrewd. He’s had a difficult time of it because he has lost a lot of good players and, when that happens, it can be difficult to find replacements for them.

“But it’s early in the season and they will be hell-bent on getting off the mark. It’s a good game to get our teeth into.”
