Bruce is buzzing for goals

-

Derek McInnes hailed Bruce Anderson as his vital spark – and says the rest of his players can learn from his wee Dons wasp.

The 19-year-old came on as a sub and almost opened the scoring with a stunning shot that hit the bar.

Aberdeen finally made the breakthrough when Gary Mackay- Steven scored from the spot.

But Dons boss McInnes says his troops could learn from buzzing Bruce – who salvaged a draw last week against Rangers – and start shooting on sight.

He said “Anderson gave us a spark up front. We introduced him at the right time. He is infectious.

“He gave the defenders something to think about. He chased everything – he was like a wasp.

“It can be difficult for defenders to react to that added energy. And he is a goalscorer. There’s no other thought than getting the ball and shooting.

“I could do with more in the team expecting to score they way he does.”

The Dons ground down s tuf f y Dunde e and McInnes was glad to get their first league victory.

He said: “It’s a good win at a difficult venue.

“We hope to bring in a new player before the close of the transfer window and we can kick on from here.

“Getting your first win of the new season is always good so we know what we have to do from now on.

“It’s fair to say MackaySteven and Niall McGinn could have been a bit more influential in the first half, going down that hill with 3000 fans behind the goal.

“But if you keep giving those boys the ball then something will happen.

“Patience can eventually pay dividends. Given our defensive problems, a clean sheet is brilliant.”
