Horgan a ‘coup’ for Hibs

- James Cairns

Neil Lennon insists Hibs have pulled off a transfer “coup” with the signing of winger Daryl Horgan f rom Preston on a three-year deal.

Hibs have been chasing the 26-year- old Ireland international throughout the summer, with a loan switch from Deepdale initially mooted.

But the £ 2.75million sale of John McGinn to Aston Villa gave the club scope to make it a permanent move and they are understood to have paid a six-figure fee for the former Sligo, Cork and Dundalk star.

Horgan becomes Hibs’ second signing since McGinn left on Thursday, with Emerson Hyndman arriving on loan from Bournemouth.

And the Irishman could make his debut against St Johnstone today.

Manager Lennon said: “Daryl is one we’ve been keen on for a long time and it’s a real coup to get him over the line.

“He will give us a real threat going forward and some strength out wide. We had been looking to add in that area and I’m delighted with the options we now have.

“He has power and pace and will hopefully give us another dimension to our play in the final third.”

Horgan was a pivotal part of the Dundalk team which became the first Irish side to reach the play- off round of the Champions League in 2016. It earned him a move to Preston, before making his international debut seven months later.

The winger said: “I’ve spoken to the manager and I’m excited about his plans for the season.

“The boys have started well. They had a good season last year and the ambition is there to follow that with another successful campaign.”
