Hols food poisoning hell puts boy in ICU

A British boy is on life support in hospital after suffering food poisoning while on holiday in Egypt.

Luay Mohammed was struck down by salmonella at the five-star Tia Heights resort in Hurghada, 15 miles from where tourists John, 69, and Susan Cooper, 64, died last month.

The seven-year-old, who suf fers from sickle cel l disease, went into septic shock af ter his fami ly returned to the UK and has been in intensive care at Birmingham Chi ldren’s Hospital for three weeks.

Hi s mot her Fat h ia decided to tell his story to warn other parents of the dangers of food poisoning.

The mum of three said: “We thought he just had a funny tummy, as we’d all fallen ill on the trip, but he took a turn for the worst when we got home.

“I want other parents to act quickly if their child goes down with something at a resort. I dread to think what would have happened if we hadn’t got Luay back to the UK when we did.

“He’ ll be in hospital a while yet, but he is a fighter.”

Edinburgh-born snapper Craig, 51, who now lives on The Wirral, said: “I have passed the House with the Heart on the A9 dozens of times.

“On this particular day, there was a beautiful soft mist which made the heart stand out even more.”
