Capital landmarks on Monopoly

-

Edinburgh Edin Castle is set to take the top space on a new Monopoly Mon board promoting the capital.

The landmark – Scotland’s most popupopular tourist attraction – is set to replareplace the original Mayfair on the new bboard, which is out in November. ArtArthur’s Seat, in the city’s Holyrood ParkPark, will be in the lowliest space tradtraditionally filled by Old Kent Road. WWinning Moves UK, who make the Monopoly board under official licelicence owners Hasbro, told how thethey had numerous suggestions for the top spots but struggled to find aan option for the cheapest square bbecause it was felt Edinburgh was “too posh”. They said Arthur’s Seat was a perfect fit because it keeps with the “old” theme of the iconic space.

A Winning Moves spokesman said: “The landmarks that will fill this board are crown jewels. Edinburgh is blessed with wonderful choices.”

The new Edinburgh Monopoly will mark 20 years since the capital became the first UK city outside London to get its own board.

Other landmarks likely to feature include Princes Street, the Palace of Holyrood House, the Scottish Parliament and the Royal Mile. The playing pieces will also be customised.

Winning Moves are looking for a VIP to launch the game at the five-star Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh, The Caledonian Hotel, on November 8.

Entries on the theme “Why I love Edinburgh”, including poems, ditties, one- liners or even paintings and designs, will be considered.

Benjamin Thompson, of Winning Moves, said: “The most inventive and creative entry will win.”

Entries can be sent by email to VIP@6starpr.co.uk from tomorrow until September 30.
