back-to-back Grand Slams today. Del Potro underwent a fourth wrist op three-and-a-half years ago and said: “The worst moment was in 2015 when I was close to quitting this sport because I couldn’t find a way to fix my wrist problems.
“I was suffering a lot. I got depressed for a couple of months.
“But those friends who’ve come to watch me, they were very important
because they were behind me in those years, trying to keep my mind positive during my wrist problems.
“I didn’t know if I’d be a tennis player again or not but here I am.”
Djokovic, who impressed in his last-four straight-sets win over Kei Nishikori, admits he has huge respect for the way Delpo has battled back.
The Wimbledon champion said: “Even when his ranking dropped, we all knew he had the quality to get back to where he is at the moment.”
