OAP FEARS OVER CARE HOME AXE

Families’ anger as 53 residents face move within weeks

-

The Age Scotland charity have slammed the behaviour of care workers who were snapped apparently mocking elderly residents as “inexcusable and scandalous”.

The picture shows two half-naked staff seemingly posing as OAPs as other employees look on.

Bosses of Beechwood Care Home in Wishaw, Lanarkshire, were forced to deny one of the workers was wearing a dead resident’s wig during the stunt. They said it belonged to a living resident.

Four employees have been suspended while an investigation is carried out into the 2015 incident.

Adam Stachura, of Age Scotland, said: “Treating older people in care homes with dignity and respect is the very least that staff should be doing.

“Residents of this home and their families will rightly be outraged by this revelation.

“It’s good that the care home are investigating this but it should never have happened in the first place.”

Holmes Care Group, who run the home, said they were “deeply appalled”.
