Brits have at least 14 slang ways to ask friends to lend them money.

Scots say “gies a lend” or “gies a bung.”

Liverpudli­ans will ask a pal for a “sub” or to “front me a loan.” Geordies would suggest you “spot us a fiver.”

Londoners – who once asked to be “whispered” cash – would ask you to “touch me a loan.” In the north west, you’d be asked to “borrow me” money.
